Analyst says Maya up to task for Chief Justice role

As President Cyril Ramaphosa mulls over the JSC's recommendation for our new Chief Justice - a political analyst says Supreme Court of Appeal president Mandisa Maya has proved she's up to the task.
Professor Sipho Seepe's been commenting on the Judicial Service Commission's announcement that it's backing Maya for the top job.
Commissioners interviewed four candidates last week, including acting Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
The ball is now in Ramaphosa's court.

And the president will soon reveal who he's chosen to head up the judiciary.
Seepe believes Maya would be a good choice.
"There were also objections to her appointment. People claim that she lacks the intellectual gravitas to lead the judiciary and she was able to respond to that to say first of all she has been a leader in the court but she has written over 200 judgments that stood the test of time."
