Almost 10k KZN homes affected by weather issues

The Department of Human Settlements says KZN is leading as the province with the highest number of homes affected by weather-related disasters.

Briefing parliament on Wednesday, it revealed that over nine thousand homes were destroyed in the 2024/25 financial year.

Director-General Alec Moemi says nearly 3,000 Temporary Residential Units were constructed to house some families.
" In KwaZulu-Natal, we had an incident in Ugu District, which was following heavy rains and floods, and the same in eThekwini District when 196 households were affected and also in ILembe District, where 28 mud houses were affected.

"I must also clarify this point that it may be that indeed some had been affected by a hailstorm, but they just require minor repairs."
Since the start of the current financial year, over 200 homes have been affected by storms.
