Alleged drug dealers including cop arrested
Five suspects - among them a senior Johannesburg police officer - have been arrested on suspicion of dealing in drugs this morning.
They were taken into custody in a pre-dawn joint operation between the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Hawks.
The 51-year-old colonel based at the Sophiatown Police Station was arrested just after he reported for duty this morning.
The other four suspects were apprehended in Westbury, Newclare and Reverlea.
Police say the group is believed to be part of a drug trafficking syndicate operating in and around Johannesburg.
They are due to appear before the Johannesburg and Roodepoort Magistrate’s Courts soon.
Police say they are expecting to make more arrests.
