He was speaking at a Black Business Council dinner in Sandton last night. Ramaphosa stressed the importance of radical economic transformation and the role the council could play in achieving it.
But he warned South Africans not to bury their heads in the sand and ignore the current political, social and economic challenges facing the country.
"We must be honest enough to admit the depth of political, economic and social challenges in our country - and that we should not run away from."

Ramaphosa added that South Africans should acknowledge that some of the wounds are self-inflicted.
"We must be brave enough to admit that there are such issues and we should be prepared to recognise that there is progress and development," he said.

He said he believes some of these difficulties could be overcome through efforts to achieve genuine transformation. He urged South Africans to see the glass as half-full.
"For more than two decades our country and its people from all walks of life have been working to build a united and equal society, but each day as we walk the streets of our country, we realise that our long walk to freedom - envisioned by Nelson Mandela - is far from over," he said.
