Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
All eyes will be on Finance Minister Tito Mboweni when he delivers the 2019 Budget next week.
Economic expert Professor Bonke Dumisa feels government has no option but to bail out the power utility, which is reportedly in debt to the tune of more than R400 billion.
President Cyril Ramaphosa implied during his State of the Nation Address this month that Eskom will be assisted by government.

Dumisa feels any assistance and intervention must be directed at the root cause of the problem.
"The main area of frustration for Eskom is generation because some of the technology there is not appropriate and some of the equipment being used is not appropriate. That takes you to the core problem at Eskom, that everyone is trying to avoid being upfrontabout," he says.
