Africa Day: SA’s growth reflected in G20 Presidency

As South
Africa marks Africa Day on Sunday, the National Council of Provinces believes
the country has come a long way.

Deputy chair, Les Govender said South Africa being the first African country to holdthe G20 presidency is evidence the progress we have made.
"In terms of economic development, in terms of our freedom from the bonds of apartheid," he said.
He said government does not take the responsibility of the presidency lightly.

Govender said they plan to promote Africa and leverage international countries to invest in the continent.
"It is a tremendous responsibility. At the same time, a huge boost for the African continent," said Govender.
"One of the stumbling blocks across Africa is unemployment and poverty, and if we can leverage an international foreign aid into the continent, it'll definitely ease the issue of unemployment."
