Xolani Radebe, the suspect behind the weekend incident on Kenneth Road, appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The Ward 25 eThekwini branch launch, attended by party president Herman Mashaba, had to be cancelled on Sunday after several gunshots were fired.

Radebe, who is facing two charges, including attempted murder, is due back in court next week for a bail hearing.

The party's provincial leader, Zwakele Mncwango, said Radebe remains a threat to the community.

He believes the 34-year-old should not receive bail.

The prosecutor raised some issues. One is an issue of unconfirmed address, and two, this guy also has two other cases that NPA need to confirm," said Mncwango.

"As ActionSA, we still believe that even next week, this guy mustn't get bail, mainly because the community where he comes from and the community that was present during the shooting, they're still traumatised and still scared of him.

"So, we believe he must remain in custody."
