ActionSA presents former DA chair Athol Trollip as new member
Updated | By Algoa FM
Former Democratic Alliance (DA) Eastern Cape leader Athol Trollip is going green.
He is now a member of ActionSA.
The party's leader Herman Mashaba had teased supporters over the weekend on Twitter, offering a party shirt if they correctly guessed which individual would be joining the fledgling party.
At a press conference in Gqebera on Wednesday morning, Trollip spoke fondly about his 25 years as a representative of the DA in parliament and as the Gqeberha mayor after the 2016 elections.
He resigned in 2019, together with former DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

"My change in conviction or lose in conviction from my former party will no doubt be maligned as of others been maligned who have left that party to join ActionSA. I expect them to happen. It is inevitable in politics.
"One thing I am not going to do, though, is to malign my former political parties. You can't serve something and build something for 25-years and then suddenly malign it.
"To me, that will be completely unethical and disrespectful to my relationship that I had with them."
