ACS hits back at ACSA over OR Tambo grenade claims
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
The Aviation Co-ordination Services has accused the Airports
Company South Africa of making misleading and inaccurate claims after the
security breach at OR Tambo International Airport in May.

The Civil Aviation Authority fined ACSA R2 million after a passenger travelling to Ethiopia was allowed to pass through security checks with two training grenades in their luggage.
On Thursday, the airports company said the contract with the coordination services has been terminated.
However, ACS chief executive officer Duke Phahla says ACSA has no right to terminate the service.

He adds that the airports company has prevented them from carrying out their mandate..
"For the past eight years, ACSA has prevented ACS from replacing HBS equipment at airports with more advanced and reliable screening technology that would detect possible threats and bring them to the attention of screeners. Had ACS been permitted to carry out the long-term HBS equipment upgrade and replacement, the security incident that took place on 25 May may well have been avoided. "
