7de Laan: Actor suspected of killing partner 'not part of current cast'
Hit SABC 2 soap opera 7de Laan has confirmed that the actor suspected of killing his partner is not part of its current cast.
Kempton Park police say the shooting occurred on Thursday in Norkem Park.
Police spokesperson Barbara-Anne Ferreira says when officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 29-year-old man.
The 50-year-old suspect, who tried to take his own life by overdosing on tablets, was also at the scene of the crime.
He was taken to Tembisa Hospital and will appear in court on Monday.
“He will be charged with murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Kempton Park Police Station," says Ferreira.
SABC 2 and 7de Laan issued a statement on Friday saying they were saddened and disturbed by the news.
"As it stands, we have no knowledge of the identity of the individual involved and would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and friends.
"It is believed the suspect was an actor who featured in a number of South African soap operas, but it is still unclear as to which."
They say efforts have been made by its production to determine the individual's identity.
