50,000 expected at Durban July as city ramps up safety
Excitement is building ahead of Africa's biggest Horse Racing event. 50-Thousand local and international visitors are expected to attend today's Hollywoodbets Durban July at the Greyville Racecourse.
The event is set to boost eThekwini's GDP by nearly R700 million and generate around R278 million in direct spending.
Yesterday, KZN Transport launched its Durban July and Winter Holiday Road Safety Campaign.
In a statement, the department said members of the Road Traffic Inspectorate will be visible on major routes to enforce adherence to traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, police are warning racegoers to remain vigilant.
Authorities say various SAPS units and security agencies have been deployed to the Greyville Racecourse and hotspots around Durban for the horse racing event.
eThekwini District police spokesperson Carmen Rhynes is urging spectators to behave responsibly and enjoy the festivities safely.
"People attending the Durban July need to protect their valuables whilst at the race course. Those are indulging in alcohol, must be dropped off and picked up or alternatively use available modes of public transport.
She warns those who will be found drinking and driving will be arrested.
"Whilst on the race course, one must be aware of criminals who may be mingling with the crowd, so it’s important not to leave any valuables unattended. People coming into the stadium will be searched for any prohibited items and such will be confiscated."
