35% of KZN homes spend 30 mins fetching water
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
Thirty-five percent of households in KwaZulu-Natal that do not have piped water spent more than half-an-hour fetching water last year.

Sixty-four percent of homes took less than 30 minutes to collect water.
This was revealed in the General Household Survey released by Stats SA on Tuesday.
Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke says for 17 percent of homes in Limpopo, collecting water took between 30 minutes and an hour.
" In KwaZulu-Natal, we can see that while they're closer to Limpopo, in terms of the less than 30 minutes, but when we come to 30 to 60 minutes, KwaZulu-Natal was actually leading the pack in terms of about half an hour to an hour. So it means people had to walk longer or take longer to go and fetch water.
The survey dealt with South Africans' living conditions in 2024.
It covered health, education, housing, water and sanitation, social security, transport, income and food access.
Maluleke says they found that 76.8% of South African households have access to improved water sources in their yards.
