The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department's Muzi Mahlambi is advising them to use this time wisely.

"We take this opportunity to urge learners to continue to attend school, to be consulting their educators, to form study groups and to lessen time spent on entertainment," he said.

Mahlambi says they are hoping to better last year's results which saw KZN  with a 7.7% drop from 77.4% the previous year to 69.7%.

He says through Operation Bounce Back, they were able to address the problems which led to the decrease.

"We have done everything that needed to be done in order to try and improve and rectify the mistakes that we made last year. We're very much confident at this point in time with the manner in which things are going in terms of rolling out that kind of programme," he said.

Mahlambi says 170 000 full-time candidates will sit for this year's National Senior Certificate exams.
