2 SARS officers praised for refusing bribes
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The SA Revenue Service has commended two officers who turned down bribes in separate incidents last week.
SARS says the officials showed the highest integrity, turning down bribes of R100 000 and R10 000 respectively.
On Tuesday, members of the SARS Tactical Intervention Unit and police in the North West arrested a clearing agent based in Benoni for trying to offer the R100 000 bribe.
The suspect allegedly tried to bribe the official after a truck loaded with an electrical transformer valued at about R9.5-million was stopped last Friday.
In the second incident, an officer found illicit goods valued at R5-million allegedly stashed in two containers from Zambia.
