'18 million less health workers in SA by 2030'

Creating health and social sector jobs in an effort to improve inclusive economic growth has been highlighted in a report handed over to the United Nations.

President Jacob Zuma and his French counterpart Francois Hollande are co-chairing the commission at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Included in the report is the projection that there will be 18 million less health workers by 2030.


"The costs associated with training health workers and the delivery of health services should not be seen as a cost to the economy. It should rather be viewed as a prudent investment which will yield substantial dividends in terms of job creation and economic growth," he said.
