As part of Newswatch's special focus on the 16 Days of Activism campaign, we take a look at the unsolved case of this young Durban woman.

The young singer from Inanda went missing for three weeks.

On 7 September, the 23-year-old was left for dead on her mother's doorstep - bruised and unconscious.

Barely 48 hours later she succumbed to organ failure in hospital believed to have been caused by the brake fluid and paracetamol, she had been poisoned with.

Speaking exclusively to Newswatch, her best friend Zamambo Mkhize says the family are still searching for answers.

"The family chose not to continue with the whole process. So we currently don't know what's happening. We are waiting for the justice system to actually get back to us and tell us what they actually found," she said.

As the days turned into weeks and weeks into months, all police could tell the family is that the case is still under investigation. It remains as an inquest docket.

"Talking about it, it even makes me sad right now. This type of thing has got my family worried because every time I go out they ask me 'When are you coming back?', 'What time are you coming back?' just in case something happens. Because you don't know, you can never trust the people around you anymore," she said.
