16 days not enough to fight gender violence: Activist
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
With today being the last day of the 16 Days of Activism Against the Abuse of Women and Children a KZN women's rights organisation says these two weeks are not enough to educate people about gender-based violence.
Network on Violence Against Women is calling for more campaigns which will run throughout the year.
The organisation's Cookie Edwards says there has been too many workshops done to educate women only. She believes it is time to shift the focus.
"We also need to get men involved. There are good men out there and not all men are perpetrators of violence, but what we are saying is let us stand together," she said.
"Let us help those with anger management issues and cannot control themselves because is not only the problem of the victim but it is also the problem of society," Edwards said.
"This eats away at the moral standings of our families and various communities," she said.
