Zuma on strengthening the economy
Updated | By Zongile Nhlapo
President Jacob Zuma says the country's economy must not be treated in isolation to the rest of the global economic crisis.

He has called South Africa's economy a resilient one, adding that focus must be on ensuring that a credit status downgrade is prevented.
The President mentioned a few areas the business sector has suggested be focused on to strengthen the economy.
"Amongst these points is a need to unite behind the National Development Plan, fiscal consolidation, improved management and governance of state owned enterprises. Promoting public-private partnerships especially in infrastructure development," he said.
Zuma also announced that government tenders will no longer be advertised in newspapers. Instead, a central supplier database will be used for this purpose as from next month and will be accessible free of charge.
"And this [advertising in newspapers] will be another cost saver for government," he said.
