Zandile Gumede elected eThekwini regional chairperson
Updated | By News24
EThekwini councillor Zandile Gumede has been elected chairperson of the region.
She was elected in the controversial conference which took place at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium at the weekend.
Gumede received 283 votes while Mayor James Nxumalo, who was supported by members who boycotted the conference, received one vote.
The first day of the conference was marred by delays, this after members, believed to be in Nxumalo’s camp launched an urgent court interdict, trying to stop the conference from taking place, at the Durban High Court.
The High Court yesterday morning dismissed the interdict.
The Elexions Agency announced yesterday that there were 286 eligible voters of which 284 voted.
