UKZN to deal harshly with staff allegedly involved in sale of student places
The University of KwaZulu-Natal says numerous people have already come forward with concrete information following allegations a syndicate has been selling space to students wanting to get into its medical school.
The Sunday Tribune yesterday reported that a group of staff have been selling space at the institution's Nelson Mandela School of Medicine to Indian students and passing them off as coloured students.
Currently, Indian students are required to obtain a higher average in matric than coloured students to be considered for admission at the school.
The university's Lesiba Seshoka says those found guilty will be dealt with.
"That is a serious accusation should the person be found to indeed have been involved in such bribery. Such a person may be dismissed from the university. But secondly, such a person will be subjected to criminal charges," he said.
