Tshwane to elect leaders at first council meeting
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
All eyes will be on Tshwane this afternoon as its council sits for the first time after the elections.
This comes after, in a surprise result, the DA got the most votes in the metro, but not the majority.
Opposition parties have committed to voting together to unseat the ANC.
During today's proceedings, the new mayor, speaker and chief whip will be voted for and sworn in.
With the support of smaller parties such as the EFF and the Freedom Front Plus, DA candidate Solly Msimanga should be appointed as the new mayor of Tshwane.

It has been a week of victories for the official oppositions as its candidates took the mayoral spots both Nelson Mandela Bay and Mogale City.
After winning by a single vote, newly elected Mogale City Mayor Lynn Pannall said they would focus on bettering service delivery in the area.
She is also positive about working with the Speaker and the Chief Whip, who are both from the ANC.
"Checks and balances are always a very good thing in any situation and I think we can cooperate, because you'll have executive with your mayoral committee and then the Whip on the one hand and you've got your Speaker on the other. I think we can work together well and I'm hoping so and my hand will reach out to them to do exactly that," she said.
