Some KZN beaches still closed following harsh weather conditions

Some of Durban's beaches remain closed following adverse weather conditions and a South Easterly wind earlier this week which saw sea swells reach at least 4 metres.

Several beaches along the coastline were also then closed to bathers due to safety concerns. The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board's Mike Anderson-Reade says 90% of the beaches have since been reopened.
"The only beaches that are still closed are Zinkwazi, Blythedale, Warner, Winkelspruit, Carradine, Umgababa and Port Edward beaches. All the other beaches are open," he said.
"The guys have done a really wonderful job in poor conditions," Anderson-Reade.
Meanwhile, Ethekwini's Parks and Recreation Department's Thembinkosi Ngcobo says a damage assessment at some Durban Beaches needs to be done as weather conditions have left them eroded with massive debris in the aftermath.
"The agreement we have reached with the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board is that a daily assessment will take place and they will advise us whether to open the beaches or not," he said.
"For now, though, I can safely say that those beaches which have been opened will most likely remain opened. We are doing as much as possible to remove remaining debris," Ngcobo said.
