Situation still tense on some Durban roads
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The situation is volatile at the intersection of Queen Nandi and Musa Dladla drives in Newlands East, north of Durban.
This despite there being a police presence in the area. Durban protesters have called for councillor's removal.
About 100 people gathered at the intersection. Protestors are angry over candidate lists ahead of the local government elections and have barricaded several key roads this morning.
They are also calling for the councillor's removal - singing struggle songs and burning tyres.
Chris Hani Road - formerly North Coast Road has also been affected.
Protesters don't want motorists to access Newlands East Drive - they say they won't stop with the demonstration until their demands are met.
While, a Sea Cow Lake resident in Durban North has told Newswatch her family was woken up at about 2am today to the sounds of people chanting. Sharmilla Dukhan says police cordoned off the road she lives in.
