Samwu calls for peace in Tshwane

The South African Municipal Workers Union has called for calm in Tshwane.

''We want to appeal to all the comrades and community members in Tshwane, if there are those who have a displeasure of some sort, please let them engage the ANC and let this matter be resolved,'' he said.
SAMWU's Mpho Tladinyane has been speaking to Newswatch after chaotic protests broke out in sections of Tshwane this week in response to the ANC's announcement that Durban-born Thoko Didiza is its preferred candidate for mayor in the metro.
Didiza is currently a chairperson in Parliament. Some areas that saw days of violent demonstrations are Atteridgeville, Mamelodi, Hamanskraal and Ga-Rankuwawest.
Meanwhile, Attridgeville appears to have calmed somewhat overnight.
This resident says police were in the township last night trying to secure the area and maintain order.
He feels other organisations also have a hand in the situation.
''Yesterday we have seen other people coming in, other political organisations putting in some effort, but we realise that its because of local elections issues so somebody is doing something to gain voters,'' he said.
