Port Shepstone family appeals for liver donor
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A 50-year-old Port Sheptsone man is in desperate need of a liver transplant after a rare reaction to TB medication caused the organ to fail.
The man’s family is appealing for donations in a bid to save his life.
They’re encouraging potential donors to contact the Organ Donation Foundation.
The man is currently receiving treatment in the Wits Donald Gordan Medical Centre in Joburg.
His wife and doctors say it’s very rare for TB medication to cause liver failure.
"A donor must be an accident victim or gun-shot victim - not someone that passes away because of illness. Due to the fact that the healthy liver is needed, the height is 1.7-metres to 1.8-metres as the size of the liver is determined by the height of the patient," she said.
