NFP hope to succeed in court bid to overturn elections ban

The NFP is hopeful it will receive a positive response after appealing an IEC decision to ban it from taking part in the 2016 local government elections.

The party's approached the Electoral Court in the hopes that it will be able to contest the August 3 polls.
The IEC says the NFP had not paid its registration fee on time.
The NFP claims that a cheque sent to the commission was on time, but bounced.
Spokesperson Sabelo Sigudu says they're disappointed as they've put in a lot of work preparing for the elections.
"As much as we believe we did send the cheque. There was a confirmation received from the national office because all our election matters are handled by our national office which are the ones responsible in ensuring that they deal with this. We chose the online system which requires most of the work to be done by them as they said to us," he said.
KZN's chief electoral officer Mawethu Mosery confirmed that the NFP's 2500 candidates have been disqualified from the elections.
"All those who wish to contest this election had to pay the deposit on June 2 and the NFP is one of those many in that group who did not pay the required deposit," he said.
