In her first press briefing as Public Protector, Mkhwebane said she has had to face various questions about the first controversial report on her desk - referring to her predecessor Thuli Madonsela's report on state capture.

"I don't know whether it's a final report. Remember, it's kept under lock and key to avoid a confrontation or conflict between the office of the Public Protector, government and respondents. The best way is to share the provisional report. It will depend on whether that person is also cooperating," she said.

Mkhwebane made it clear that there is no competition between her and Madonsela.

"She is Thui Madonslea and I'm Busisiwe Mkhwebane. She has run her race. I will do my part. To put the record straight; we are not in competition, we are serving our people," she said.
