WATCH: Medical aid schemes are unaffordable to the masses: Health minister
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Health Minister has suggested the current structure of medical aids are unconstitutional.
Aaron Motsoaledi was speaking at the 2nd National Pharmacy Conference in Durban.
He says what medical aid schemes do is simply take a member's money just to abandon them when the going gets tough.
"Once you fall on hard times, then thy discard you. One of the problems we are trying to solve is that you get an accident, lying in the ICU, after three months you're still in [a] coma, they say: 'No, this is too much, your money is finished. You must get out. But you're still in a coma," he said.
