LISTEN: Brave Durban teen saves family from intruders

A 16-year-old Durban judoka is being hailed a hero after he took on three house robbers in a desperate bid to protect his terrified mother and sister from the intruders.

Meekaeel Moolla was stabbed twice on his head and beaten with a crowbar while he tried to prevent the attackers from entering his home on Botanics Avenue on Saturday night.
Speaking to Newswatch from St Augustines Hospital, his mom Zaineb Moolla who was shot in the stomach during the robbery, recounted the incident.
Moolla’s daughter,who didn't want to be identified, says she was able to shoot one of the suspects with her father’s gun but the wounded man and his accomplices got away.
