on Valentine's Day in 2013.

His initial culpable homicide conviction was changed to murder after the State successfully appealed the conviction.

Malcolm Lutge of MP Lutge Incorporated Legal Services says he had expected nothing less than ten years.

"Oscar is a lucky man. In summing up Oscar's particular circumstances - mitigating factors - which would entitle the judge to reduce the sentence from the mandatory sentence from fifteen years to what she gave of six years, in my opinion she seemed to take into account his personal circumstances only.

Attorney William Da Graas says although the sentence is a bit light, it should suffice.

"I think it's a fair sentence in the circumstances. I think it does fit the crime.

"I was not the presiding officer and I think in the circumstances she would have brought to bear all the relevant circumstances of the case and come to a fair decision," he said.

Pistorius's legal team has indicated that he will not be appealing the sentence.
