Two water sachet machines, 80 static tanks as well as 20 additional water tankers are just some of the equipment that have been identified and provided by City to drought-affected areas in Durban - among them Verulam and La Mercy.

However deputy mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala has warned against the hiring of 25 bakkies at R217 000 a month.

"It would be too much. With that money you can even get a car," she said.

Twenty temporary council drivers will be hired for the 20 water tankers costing almost R500 a month.

The IFP's Mdu Nkosi has applauded the city for this emergency plan but has asked that the water be distributed fairly.

"We would get that information that the municipality have paid for so many water tankers but people cannot get water because the other tankers are not there. Let's ensure that justice is being done wit the water tankers," he said.
