Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal hacking of a family in the Zululiyaduma area in Melmoth.

It is alleged that the victims - a 49-year-old mother, her 23-year-old son and her 27-year-old daughter who was pregnant - were brutally hacked with a bush knife and fatally shot. One of the family members who is a 30-year-old woman survived the attack and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

"Three counts of murder as well as one of attempted murder were opened by Melmoth SAPS. Police immediately began their investigations which led to the arrest of four suspects aged between 16 and 21," he said.
"All four are due to appear on Monday at the Melmoth Magistrate's Court facing three counts of murder as well one of attempted murder," Zwane said.
