Fire breaks out at old PMB railway station
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Firefighters are still working to douse that flames after a fire broke out at an abandoned building in Pietermaritzburg.
Divisional Officer at the Maritzburg Fire Department, Lincoln Pennells says it's unclear what sparked the blaze at the disused railway station situated on Railway Road in the city centre.
He says the fire has engulfed the entire building.
"The whole roof caught alight and our firefighters are still there trying to put it out. The whole rail station is standing vacant and the premises are not even being used by anyone. There [are] no injuries at all," he said.
He says the extent of the damage as well as the possible cost will be determined later.
Investigations into the cause of the fire will begin once the blaze has been extinguished.
