eThekwini to install water restrictors to reduce consumption
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Executive Councillor at the eThekwini Municipality Heinz de Boer has clarified reports of water shedding in the city.

This comes after the publication of a leaked document which spelt out a proposed water reduction schedule meant to come into effect yesterday.
De Boer says while water shedding will not go ahead, several other measures will be taken to ensure restrictions are adhered to.

"What is being proposed at the moment is the installation of water restrictors in residential homes that will be for a large part of the city.
"We already have approximately 50 000 restrictors that have been put into metres in the northern parts of the city which includes Tongaat, Verulam and the like. That's going to extend into other parts of the city," he said.
De Boer says however there's no indication of when the restrictors will be installed and in which areas.
The Municipality said the restrictors will cut water volume and pressure by 50%.
