The prestigious horse racing event is expected to inject at least R1 billion into the local economy. According to Durban tourism just under a thousand temporary jobs were created with the accommodation and hotel industries expected to be packed to near capacity.

Although a weekend of fun and excitement, Metro police's Sibonelo Mchunu is urging everyone to do so responsibly as many roads will be affected.

"From Julius Nyerere towards Warick Junction, those areas will be affected, but officers will be there and signs will be put up and there will be escape routes for motorists who are not participating in the event", he said.

"People who will be consuming alcohol are urged to abstain from driving afterwards because our law enforcement agencies will not tolerate any drinking and driving," Mchunu said.

The following roads will be affected:

- Avondale road will be made a one way between Mitchell Crescent and DLI Avenue.

- DLI Avenue will only be open to vehicle that have parking access.

- Umgeni road will be partially affected.

- Julius Nyerere towards Warwick Junction will be partially affected.

- Motorists can park their vehicles at the old Drive-In site at 280 Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street and take the shuttles to the race course.
