Charges against Zuma compromise SA's integrity: expert

Yesterday the Constitutional Court dismissed an application by the NPA to overturn a previous High Court ruling to reinstate criminal charges against President Zuma in the Spy Tapes matter. Earlier this year the North Gauteng High Court ruled that former NPA head Mokotedi Mpshe's decision not to pursue 783 charges of corruption, fraud and racketeering against Zuma was irrational. 

Sunil Singh who is with Sunil Singh and Associates explains what may unfold going forward.

"What will follow from here on is that the indictment will be prepared and served accordingly. The representatives would then arrange a trial date with the prosecution and the matter would follow thereon for the purposes of a trial," he said.

Singh says it is now up to the ANC to decide if they keep President Zuma in the office as the trial might have a negative impact on the rand.

"The ball is in the ANC's court for them to decide how they will attend to this matter," he said. 

"They could maybe decide to relieve the president of his duties in order for him to attend to the criminal trial and let the second in charge take over the reigns until this trial is over," Singh said.
