ANA now set for December
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Department of Basic Education has made another about-turn and now says the Annual National Assessments will be written from the first to the fourth of December this year.
Minister Angie Motshekga made the announcement while addressing journalists in Pretoria.
The department had initially said the assessments would go ahead with or without the participation of teachers' union, Sadtu which had threatened to boycott the tests.
Last week it was announced that the ANAs would be postponed to next year - prompting political parties to accuse the department of kow-towing to unions.
Meanwhile Motshekga, says its all systems go with 37 days left to the start of the 2015 National Senior Certificate exams.
Her spokesperson, Troy Martens says exam centres have already been allocated.
"We have, all in all - including part-time and full-time learners - over 800 000 learners participating in this year's examinations. Examination centres are ready and the papers have been set and sent through to provinces. All indications are that we are ready to go for the 2015 National Senior Certificate Examinations," she said.
The National Senior Certificate exam will start on 26 October and end on 27 November. Results will be available at schools on January 6, 2016.
Naptosa's Anthony Pierce says they will be requesting a meeting with the department.
