5 ways to make your phone battery last longer

There is nothing more annoying than your smartphone’s battery dying for the umpteenth time.

Not even car charges and portable battery charges can save you from running out of battery life at the worst possible times.

It’s like your life comes to a complete standstill, and do even the simplest things – like tell your friend Becky how good her hair looks on Instagram.

Smartphones can do just about everything, except stay on for hours on end! Hashtag, first world problems.

If you are sick and tired of running out of phone batter life, then these five tips will definitely help you conserve more power.

Some of them are pretty obvious, but many cell phone users seem to easily forget.

Turn off push notifications and vibrations

Yes, we all love staying up to date with what’s happening on our social media accounts, but turning on notifications is using up a lot of power. Your phone actually has to constantly connect to those apps in the background. Phone vibrations also kill your battery life.

Dim your screen

The brighter your phone screen the more power it uses. Some smartphones even automatically dim your screen when your battery is in the red.

Turn wifi on, switch Bluetooth off, disable GPS

Most people only connect to wifi when they are in a wifi hotspot. But when your wifi is switched off your phone is always searching for data, which means your battery is doing a lot of work. But leaving your wifi on can have the opposite effect if you have a poor signal. Your phone will continue to search until it finds a good signal. That search could use up a lot of power. But leaving wifi on will apparently use up less power. When in doubt, just turn on airplane mode.  Leaving your Bluetooth on will also zap up your battery life, so make sure it is turned off when not in use. The same goes for your GPS. It sends and receives signals even when running in the background.

Ditch the phone case while charging

Overheating can do major damage to your phone and battery life, and phone cases are not doing anything to help – especially while your phone is charging.  Some can actually insulate your phone, preventing the loss of heat, which is a major no-no.

Charge your phone properly

Charging your phone correctly is crucial to your battery’s life. Nickel-based batteries should only be charged to full when they are almost out of power, while Lithium-ion batteries need to be charged more often. Continuing to charge your phone once it is fully charged will have little effect on increasing battery power, and can cause overheating in some cases. When buying a smartphone, ask your sales consultant about battery care.
