The Weeknd announces 'The Idol' Vol. 1 soundtrack release date

The album comes out on 30 June.

The first episode of The Weeknd's HBO drama, 'The Idol', aired on Sunday, 4 June. 

A day before the episode aired, the musician took to Instagram to announce when the soundtrack will be coming out. 

Fans can expect to have the album later this month. 

The Weeknd said the soundtrack album is coming out on June 30. 

He even shared the album cover art.

'The Idol' has received mixed reviews online with some people saying it is too explicit. 

#TheIdol has been trending on Twitter since the first episode aired. 

The Weeknd thanked those who watched the episode. 

"To my loving fans…From my heart to yours, thank you for your faithful support as we brought this vision to life," he wrote on Instagram.

He added that making the show was challenging for him. 

"It has been a beautiful and emotional journey to make this show, and you have stuck with me from beginning to end. It hasn’t been easy, but the best things never are.

"Making this show has been as challenging and rewarding as anything else I’ve ever done. Out of all the things I’ve learned, the one thing that keeps sticking with me is that there is always a way to see your dreams through to the end. This is as much yours as it is mine and it means so much that we get to finally experience it together."
