Halle Bailey is kicking off her solo music career with an empowering new song called, 'Angel'.

She released the track less than three months after her leading role as Ariel in the live-action version of 'The Little Mermaid'.

Before releasing 'Angel', Halle revealed the inspiration behind the lyrics.

"I wrote this song because the past three-four years of my life have been a really beautiful journey of self-discovery for me. It's opened so many doors for me and it's just been an eye-opening experience... I have been living in the actress world for a minute. This mermaid movie just took over my whole life. So many of you are in here because of you seeing that movie of me," she said on Instagram Live.

Halle added that the song is a mixture of all her emotions and how she could feel so grateful for something, but also so overwhelmed.

"This is a huge, big thing that ['The Little Mermaid'] was for me. It was astounding, it was amazing. I've never experienced anything like that in my life... This song, for me, was my affirmations that I would tell myself to keep being able to keep going, because all of a sudden I was thrown into this world of so many different opinions," she said.

Halle faced backlash for starring as the first black 'Little Mermaid'. Some people even went as far as review bombing the movie when it came out. Scores of people wrote bad reviews of the film without even watching it.

The negativity didn't stop Halle from enjoying every single moment of her big Disney movie.

Halle Bailey 'Angel' lyrics

Halle's fans have described her new song as an empowering anthem for girls. Part of the song's lyrics read:

Do you ever make it out of your head?
Do you still swim in your thoughts?
Do you still mistake your flaws for property?
Somethin' that just don’t sit right with you
But Heaven knows, Heaven knows
Your wings can weigh you down

But angels make a way somehow
And if we fall, we fall on clouds

Black girl here, Black girl with the Black girl hair
Took a little sun kiss just to look like this
God-sent, you're an angel (Angel)
