A fun cocktail on a summer’s day always feels like a classy affair.

Sipping on your Cosmo or Pina Colada while you watch the kids play is great, but if they can join in the “cocktail party”, then even better.

For a family-friendly affair, try these mocktail recipes.

We promise you won’t even miss the alcohol! These have all the fun of cocktails, without the hangover! Sounds like a win-win situation to us!

Coconut, lime and mint cooler

This cooler has all the tropical island flavours you can ever need and is just as good as a mojito. It’s sweet, creamy, sour, and refreshing, making it perfect to serve out of a jug on a hot day. You can get coconut water at most major supermarkets nowadays, and it’s super hydrating and healthy too.

Dark Invader

Not only does this mocktail look unspeakably cool, kids totally love it and it tastes ah-maz-ing. Who doesn’t love blueberries and pineapple? Move over Cosmopolitans, this is so much more Instagrammable anyway. The martini glass is key to the presentation of this mocktail, so don’t skip it!

Lemon Lavender

Not all kids like sweet things, so this is one for the ‘old before their time’ children out there. It’s a nice, grown-up, sophisticated sort of drink which you could be forgiven for thinking had alcohol in it. And if the kids don’t like it then it’s not the end of the world. It just means more for you! Seriously, this tastes like it belongs in a high-end cocktail bar.

Flight of the Concords

It’s juniper berries that give gin its distinctive flavour. Sniff a dried juniper berry or put it in your mouth and you’ll get a serious blast of gin vibes. This mocktail uses grapes and juniper berries and it definitely has a bit of a fruity gin flavour. Craft gins are all the rage right now so this is a bang-on trend and will hit the spot when you want a drink but don’t want a 'drink'.

Alcohol-free Sangria

Ah, sangria. Even if you’ve never been to Spain it’s hard not to appreciate sangria. The Spanish drink it over lazy tapas lunches, but we think it’s perfect for just about any outdoorsy event involving food. In case the heat and the wine is too much though, this non-alcoholic sangria is delicious and refreshing. The kids will love drinking it out of wine glasses too. Just remember to make this in advance, because the fruit and cinnamon flavours are what really make it shine and they need time to meld and develop.
