New side hustle alert? Moms sell breast milk on Facebook
Updated | By Lifestyle Reporter
These breastfeeding moms are giving the phrase "liquid gold" a whole new meaning.

Got breast milk? Then you could be sitting on a new side hustle.
Mothers in America are banking their milk and cashing in as demand for the liquid gold has increased among an unlikely group.
According to the New York Post, bodybuilders are drinking breast milk before their workouts.
We know mother's milk is nutritious for babies, but we never thought we would see the day when grown men who look like the Hulk would willingly take down shots of the liquid.
Some believe that the nutrients in the milk will help them bulk up their muscles.
There isn't any real science behind it, but bodybuilders are willing to spend money on their weekly supply.
One mom told the New York Post that she makes as much as $800 (R14,180).
“I’ve made $800 in just one day selling my breast milk on Facebook,” Keira Williams said.
Since May, she has sold over 3,500 ounces (100 litres) of breast milk. Williams told the publication that she is saving up for her wedding.
She sells her milk for 50 cents an ounce to moms in need, but bodybuilders pay up to $2 an ounce.
Another mom, Nicole Howard, says she has made $10,000 (R177,135) selling breast milk.
“It feels like a full-time job because I’m always pumping. I’ve sold over 7,000 ounces in the past 10 months," the 28-year-old said.
She mostly sells her milk to moms who can't produce their own and parents who have adopted newborns.
Some moms also donate their breast milk to organisations that supply it to needy babies.
In 2023, tennis legend Serena Williams revealed that it felt great to donate some of her milk.
"On a recent trip to NY I had left over breast milk. After going through a screening, I was able to donate it instead of taking the milk home," she wrote on Instagram.
"I know so many amazing women that adopt or are unable to make milk. It felt amazing. BTW (by the way) someone out there is getting some super soldier milk."
