Environmental Affairs monitoring UPL flood damage
The Department of Environmental Affairs says it's keeping a close watch on the flood damage at UPL's Pollution Control Dam in Cornubia, north of Durban.
The chemical company's control dam started to overflow this week, during the heavy storm.
Environmental and eThekwini officials have been inspecting the site to assess the impact of the overflow.
The department says after the July arson attacks and subsequent toxic spill at the chemical warehouse, the dam was used to contain contaminated water.
This was pumped out and transported by tankers for safe disposal.
According to the latest test result contamination levels were very low last month.
The department says it's been advised by experts that the overflow isn't a major concern, but it will keep monitoring the situation and conduct tests.

It's also reminded people that the 'exclusion zone' it established is still in place.
The zone covers one kilometre north and south of the Umhlanga estuary and a kilometre out to sea.
Swimming and fishing are not allowed.
