Cheshire Home in Chatsworth does amazing work, but one thing that really stood out was the need for wheelchairs.

The home is a non-government organisation (NGO) that assists people with disabilities, regardless of their colour, race or creed, and provides the conditions necessary for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

They run a rehabilitation facility, licensed by the Department of Health, which provides a vital service for persons with disabilities who are in need of intensive rehabilitation. This facility provides a medium intensity rehabilitation service that is free of charge.

There is such a shortage of wheelchairs that some of the residents are carried around on plastic chairs. That is becoming a real problem.

Kurt Hoggan and his team from Galleria Mall contacted the Dis-Chem Foundation to see if they were able to assist and they jumped at the opportunity to get involved.

The Dis-Chem Foundation has sponsored The Cheshire Home with 10 new wheelchairs valued at R35,000, and Galleria Mall donated an additional R5,000 voucher for the home to buy nappies.

Durban, you never cease to amaze me with your generosity!
