Farmers Association welcomes gazetted regulation in sugar industry

The South African Farmers Development Association says it supports and welcomes the new gazetted regulations in the sugar industry.

It says the transitional masterplan that's been developed for the sector gives black farmers legitimacy in the industry - and an opportunity to contribute towards the sustainability of the sugar value chain.
SAFDA CEO Dr Siyabonga Madlala says this agreement has unlocked R70 million in funding to support small scale and land reform, farmers.

"This is more of an extension of the regulations that actually gave black farmers a voice. We've influenced the sugar industry to pay them higher rates.
he added, this coming week, end of June, black farmers will be getting about 52 million rand paid into their accounts.
