La Vita Spas Expands Its Wellness Footprint Across South Africa
La Vita Spas and Hair Studios, based in KwaZulu-Natal, has grown into one of South Africa’s recognised names in wellness, beauty and self-care. The business began in 2002 when Rioma Cominelli opened the first branch in Musgrave under the name Cellu-Beauty. Her brother, Valerio Cominelli, later joined her to help grow the brand. Together, they laid the foundation for a national network of spas focused on accessible wellness and personal care.
Among the early team members was Savita Mann Singh, who joined shortly after qualifying as a somatologist. With an interest in both wellness and business, she contributed to the company’s growth and now heads up the group. Today, La Vita operates 19 spas and 3 hair studios, serving over 450 clients daily at hotels and resorts across the country.
With its head office in KwaZulu-Natal, La Vita’s footprint extends from coastal resorts to inland hotels and bush retreats. Across all locations, the aim is to provide consistent service, offering guests the opportunity to relax and recharge in a calm and professional environment.
Each spa is designed with comfort in mind, featuring quiet spaces, gentle music and a range of treatments tailored to different needs. Small details – such as refreshments and a variety of therapies – are included to enhance the experience. This consistent approach has helped the brand attract a wide client base across South Africa.
The company also places a strong focus on job creation and skills development. La Vita employs over 140 people, with many roles filled by South African women. Ongoing training and professional development are a key part of the business model. A membership system is in place, offering regular treatments at reduced rates, while helping therapists build long-term relationships with clients and strengthen their skills.

La Vita’s expansion continues at a measured pace. New spas are set to open in Johannesburg and Newcastle, along with additional hair studios in Ballito and Cape Town. The business is aiming to reach 25 spas and 8 hair studios in the near future. Growth is supported through partnerships with hotels and resorts, creating employment opportunities while adding value to the hospitality experience.
From its base in KwaZulu-Natal, La Vita has developed a national presence – offering wellness services to South Africans in both urban and rural settings. Its focus on professional care, staff development and consistent service continues to guide its growth.
