Steelco Expands Capacity and Recognition in the Industrial Sector
- Company Name: Steelco
- Number of Employees: 50
- Website: https://steelco.co.za/
Steelco, a family-run business supplying steel products and roofing solutions to the construction and industrial sectors, was previously featured on the KZN Future 50 for its growth and contribution to the local economy. Since then, the company has made meaningful progress—both in how it operates and in how it serves its customers. They have added key individuals to their leadership team, including a Head of Operations and Procurement and a Finance Support Coordinator, to strengthen day-to-day operations. Their sister company, MBM Roofing, has also launched its own in-house roofing line, which now enables them to offer a complete roofing solution under one roof.
Recognition has followed these developments. Steelco was named the Standard Bank SME Client of the Year, and MBM Roofing was a runner-up in the Family-Owned Business category at the recent KZN Top Business Awards. These achievements reflect how the team continues to build on a solid foundation—focused on reliable service, practical solutions, and local relevance. Steelco remains a strong example of what is possible for growing businesses in KwaZulu-Natal’s industrial sector.
Sparesboyz: Strengthening the Foundation for Long-Term Growth
- Company Name: Sparesboyz
- Number of Employees: 63
- Website: Sparesboyz.com.
Following their feature on the KZN Future 50, Sparesboyz has focused on building a stronger foundation to support long-term growth. The business was founded by John Hunt and Paul Shannon, who continue to lead the company today. Sparesboyz supplies quality used and new non-original vehicle parts by salvaging usable components from accident-damaged vehicles.Since being featured, the company has restructured its leadership and brought in experienced managers. This has allowed John and Paul to focus more on growing the business, while a capable team handles daily operations. They’ve also improved their systems and processes, making it easier to grow without running into problems.
These changes have helped Sparesboyz become a more stable and efficient business. As they grow, they’re also contributing to the wider automotive industry in KwaZulu-Natal — making vehicle parts more affordable and creating job opportunities. Their progress shows how businesses can keep moving forward after the spotlight, which is exactly what the Future 50 follow-up aims to highlight.
