Bedrock Group: From Local Foundations to National Concrete Expertise
Bedrock Group, a specialist concrete construction business based in Westmead, Durban, has become a leading name in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond. Founded and led by David and Greg Kitching, the company has built its reputation on innovation, precision, and a commitment to quality in the niche sectors of tilt-up and pre-cast concrete construction.
The story of Bedrock Group begins with a clear focus on advancing construction methods. While tilt-up construction might seem modern, its origins date back over a century. What sets Bedrock apart is how the company has harnessed technological advancements in concrete, steel reinforcement, and lifting equipment to transform this traditional technique into a streamlined, highly efficient process. Today, Bedrock’s approach delivers faster build times, improved cost control, and durability—qualities highly sought after in industrial and civil infrastructure projects.
One of the company’s key milestones has been the establishment of a pre-stressing yard in Cato Ridge. Here, the team manufactures hefty pre-stressed concrete bridge beams, some weighing up to 80 tonnes. These components are essential to major infrastructure developments, such as the ongoing upgrade of the N3 highway—a vital artery in South Africa’s transport network. Each beam requires meticulous production standards and coordinated delivery, including escorted transport to ensure safety and precision.
Bedrock’s expertise does not stop at concrete manufacturing. The company offers crane hire, rigging, and lifting services on a national scale, supported by skilled operators and specialised equipment. This complements their broader service offering, which also includes steel fabrication and vehicle maintenance through their Bedrock Auto division, further enhancing project efficiency and control.
The group has also made strides in marine construction, collaborating with engineers and architects to deliver durable marine structures that withstand harsh coastal environments. This diversification demonstrates Bedrock’s adaptability and technical know-how across a range of demanding construction fields.
People development remains important to Bedrock Group. Their internal platform, Bedrock EDGE, fosters skills growth and performance improvement, allowing team members to progress from entry-level roles to expert positions in engineering, fabrication, and logistics.

With around 50 employees and operations extending across multiple sectors, Bedrock Group continues to expand its footprint across Southern Africa. The company is focused on becoming a preferred partner for large-scale civil infrastructure projects, particularly in bridge construction, marine works, and water infrastructure.
Rooted in KwaZulu-Natal, Bedrock also values strong local partnerships. Collaborating with transporters, artisans, and suppliers, the company supports the wider construction ecosystem, contributing to skills development and employment in the region.
From its local beginnings, Bedrock Group stands as a significant player in South Africa’s infrastructure development landscape—combining tradition, innovation, and a commitment to building lasting connections within the communities it serves.
