Malema was being driven to court in Bloemfontein to appear on charges of urging EFF members to occupy vacant land

His driver was caught speeding at 187 kilometres per hour in a 120 zone, soon after crossing the Gauteng border at about  6am.

Free State traffic's Noko Ramatsotso says the driver did not stop at first.

"Our traffic law enforcement captured a vehicle which was driving at 187 - when they tried to stop that vehicle it did not want to stop," he said.

The vehicle was eventually stopped at Ventersburg.

"The driver has been taken back to Parys where a case will opened against him. Mr Malema showed us his drivers licence and drove to the court," he said.

His charges will be over-speeding and failure to stop when law enforcement tried stopping him.
