ECR takes #WaterShare to northern KZN

Vryheid in KZN's Zululand District is a hive of activity this morning as East Coast Radio takes it's #WaterShare Campaign to residents.

Bottles of water in their thousands were transported to the town earlier this week as part of the campaign. ECR's General Manager Boni Mchunu explains the concept behind the campaign.
"The prolong drought is a having a devastating impact on the lives of people in KZN. As East Coast Radio, we cannot sit back and do nothing to help. This is why project #WaterShare came about.
"It's our way of providing a platform for the people across the province to get involved so we can make a meaningful difference. The response so far has been phenomenal but there's so much still to be done," she said.

Meanwhile, AbaQulusi Mayor Patience Khaba says the initiative will bring much-needed relief to the drought-stricken areas within the municipality.
"That is the situation we are facing in a way that in town there is a time, I think it was for two or three days, where we never had any water at all. So we were requesting that there should be boreholes that are being revamped so that they can be utilised.
"We requested the water tankers from the Department of Co-operative Governance where they have been assisting us to say how can we distribute the water," she said.
Earlier this week, councillor and Exco-member, Harry Heyns said water levels at the Klipfontein Dam in Vryheid a major water source had decreased to nearly 18%.
